Abstract: The Research Library at the National Institute of Standards and Technology has instituted an audiobooks program through which researchers check out iPods loaded with four to six leadership and management audiobooks each, in addition to some video content. The article includes a brief discussion of the audiobooks program along with a summary of issues, file formats, and future prognostications.

Answers to WordPress Questions

Blog software = WordPress. This assessment is of free WordPress.com, where “they” host. (If we host, we use downloadable software from WordPress.org, it’s $49.50/year, and we can make changes to CSS in templates and possibly elect other flexible options). Here are the answers to the questions if we choose NOT to download WordPress software:

Can you limit access by IP range (and how does that affect RSS) No–limit by user only; can’t offer RSS

Will “they” host, or would we need to download software? They will host

Can we link from a short article to a longer one? Yes. Just use the More tag button to the right of the one that looks like a tree.

Typepad

The only way to test Typepad, the blog software used for science magazine’s blog, is to get a 14-day free trial by signing up for $49.50/year using a credit card.  Spoke with Barb; we can do this if necessary.

This is just an experiment to see how to schedule a post ahead of time. I actually entered it on Thursday, May 22. I hope it will also show how an image will display.

We may want to use both these features for the newsletter.

Blogger and Categories

I just noticed that Blogger does not permit “categories,” but its list of labels seems to do the same thing.

Blogger features

I’m going to list features of Blogger software as I learn about them. Here’s what I have so far:

• No RSS feed allowed with restricted membership
• Option for search engines to find blog
• Option to add blog to Blogger’s listing
• Option for Email notification of members
• Option to schedule future posts
• Option to upload pictures or videos, and to position them on the blog page
